QUICK - CHEAP - but I wish I knew about customs formalities in the receiving country (read UK)

It was convenient and easy shipping with Parcel Monkey (US to UK). I also saved a lot vs. shipping directly with UPS. However, I really wish I knew I needed to provide the unique Transfer of Residence (ToR) number while shipping personal belongings to UK so I can waive any import fees. It takes min 2-3 weeks to get that number after application with the HMRC. As a result, I did not get my shipped boxes as soon as it arrived from the US to the UK. It totally took 3-4 weeks to get my boxes although it had arrived to the UK within 1 week. Also, I discovered UPS customs clearance advisors in Middlesex, UK are really inefficient, test your patience and hard to communicate with. I was new to this process and I learnt it the hard way. Now I am waiting to get my import fees reimbursed (GBP 127 for each box).
