Fedex charged my friend (receiver) almost half the worth of the box!

I sent a box to Japan using ParcelMonkey (Fedex as the carrier). I was warned (as usual) that if the contents of my box were worth over $100 in value, my friend in Japan would possibly have to pay taxes. My box was a declared value of just under $200.
When the box arrived, my friend received a notice from Fedex that she was to pay about $80 (this is the equivalent of the yen amount). She told me that Fedex had imposed it's own fee in that amount.
This is about half the worth of the box! As the sender, I should've been warned that Fedex would impose this fee. The box got there quickly, but with such a high cost, I would NEVER use them as a carrier. I felt that they cheated me and lied to me on the costs. Parcelmonkey should know all the Fedex might be doing, and customers should know what they will pay. Fees should not be guesswork. I need to know my recipient isn't going to have to pay for the box that I already paid for! I am very angry about all this.Parcel Monkey replied on 01/15/19
